What I like most about reading and posting on livejournal: The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - that you'd thought special, particular to you. And here it is, set down by someone else, a person you've never met, maybe even someone long dead. And it's as if a hand has come out, and taken yours.
I mostly use this journal for: Posting photographs, over-analysing my farce of a love life, rambling about the music, books and television that I love, gossiping about other philosophers talking about philosophy, and sharing stories.

What am I like?
I'm nearly always either totally impassioned or completely fed up. My all-time favourite song is "Leif Erikson" by Interpol, closely followed by "Dear Chicago" by Ryan Adams. Most of my clothes are black, red, blue or green. I hate showing weakness, but if you're a close friend I'll be comfortable telling you absolutely anything. Before I found Philosophy, I wanted to be a clinical psychologist, a film editor, or a journalist. I've only ever been in love once, and I sometimes wonder if I'm capable of falling in love again. I never wear gold jewellery. I've been writing diaries for ten years. I dream a lot, but try to maintain an air of practicality and indifference (because I'm afraid of getting hurt, and even more afraid of living to regret things I have or haven't done).
I like trying to help people with their troubles, and I like listening because I enjoy breaking things down and watching that look of relief appear on someone else's face when they realise you've cracked their problem. I'm pretty quiet a lot of the time, but this is a blessing in disguise; when I get going it is extremely difficult to get me to shut my cake hole for two minutes. I'm friendly, if a tad caustic sometimes. I like challenges and enjoy projects. I spend my much of my time reading philosophy, arguing about philosophy, thinking about philosophy, going to gigs, taking photographs, hunting down new music, wandering around with friends, and scribbling lots of nonsense into notepads.
I once asked my livejournal friends to describe me using just one word. The following words were chosen: Complex, perspicacious, friendly, thoughtful, multifarious, romantic, poised, mesmeric, passionate, devoted, epistemologist (not an adjective, but hey!), idiosyncratic, eclectic, intelligent, compassionate and inspirational. I'm not sure about most of those, but I found the suggestions quite flattering.

Friending Policy and CreditsMy journal is now friends only, just because I feel more comfortable knowing that I have complete control over who reads what I write. Having said that, if you're not a tosser then I'll probably like you and be pretty keen to get to know you. I post a maximum of once per day, because I don't normally feel the urge to document the more boring aspects of my life, so I won't be clogging up your friends page with endless "LOLZ - I JUST MADE MAHSELF A CUP OF TEA!" posts. I make sure to keep in touch with the people I've added, so if you'd like to be one of them then just leave a comment on my one public post.

Higher Education: (18-21): The University of Glasgow.
Degree Course: Philosophy (Single Honours, MA, First Class).
Year of Completion: 2007.
Specific areas of study: In my junior honours year I studied epistemology, metaethics, Kant, Aristotle, Locke, Berkeley, philosophy of mind, and political philosophy (mostly focused on "A Theory of Justice" John Rawls). In my senior honours year I did a dissertation on epistemic value, and took classes focused on externalism & reference, consciousness, environmental ethics, realism & anti-realism, and philosophy of action.
Postgraduate education: (21-22): The University of Edinburgh.
Degree Course: Masters in Philosophy (MSc).
Year of Completion: 2008.
